Bitcoin Traders Anticipate Rally Ahead of US Government Shutdown

Traders recalled a 300% post-shutdown rally in 2019, growing optimism for a near-term rebound.

After 40 days of political deadlock, the United States federal government seems to be getting closer to reopening, and crypto traders are betting again that history may repeat itself.

This latest government Shutdown in the US became the longest in history, surpassing the previous record that lasted 35 days — from December 22, 2018 to January 25, 2019.

Bitcoin is trading at a price of us$104,501 at the time of publication, up almost 3% in the last hour. The surge came after a relatively quiet weekend, but now attention is turning to X (Twitter) amid hopes that the government shutdown will soon end.

According to TradFi media, Democratic senators have shown readiness to continue discussion of a bipartisan spending bill to end the longest government shutdown in US history. 

The Shutdown has laid off about 750,000 federal workers and disrupted critical services — from national parks to air travel.

Traders compare patterns with previous government Shutdown resolutions

On social media, traders were quick to draw parallels between the resolution of the previous government shutdown and its unexpected correlation with Bitcoin's rally. 

Ash Crypto analysts remind followers that after the US government re-opened in early 2019, Bitcoin began a five-month rally and rose more than 300%.

Amid the optimism, nearly$700 million in open interest in Bitcoin has grown. A jump in the funding rate also indicates that long positions are just beginning to enter.

Nevertheless, optimism began to return to markets that were previously preparing for a long standoff in Washington. 

If the government shutdown is actually completed today, this week will be proof of whether the end of the longest shutdown in history will trigger another Bitcoin rally or just provide a temporary bounce relief effect.
